Common FAQs About Cabinet Refacing

Will Refacing Work for My Kitchen?

Your kitchen qualifies for refacing when the cabinet boxes underneath are still solid and your layout works well enough that you don’t want to change it. The shelves need to hold weight without sagging, the drawer slides should still operate smoothly, and the box structure can’t show signs of water damage or warping from humidity exposure. We check all of this during the consultation and tell you straight whether the bones are worth keeping or whether you’d be putting new doors on boxes that won’t last.

How Many Days Until It’s Done?

Most refacing jobs wrap up in three to five days depending on how many cabinets you have and what door style you pick. That’s a lot faster than full replacement, which usually runs two to three weeks once you count demolition, new installation, and all the adjustments that follow. Your kitchen stays usable throughout the refacing process since we’re not pulling the boxes out.

What’s the Price Difference Compared to New Cabinets?

Refacing runs about half what complete replacement costs, and sometimes less depending on your door selection and how big your kitchen is. You save money because we’re keeping your existing boxes, which cuts out demolition labor, disposal fees, and the cost of building new box structures from scratch. The tradeoff is that your layout stays the same, so if you’ve been wanting to move where cabinets sit or add storage in new spots, refacing won’t get you there.

How Long Do Refaced Cabinets Hold Up?

What you get out of a refacing job comes down to the materials going on and the crew putting them there. We use solid wood doors and premium veneers that wear the same as brand-new cabinet fronts under daily kitchen use. A refacing job done right looks and works like new cabinets for a long time, but that assumes the boxes underneath were in good shape when we started. Bad boxes with nice doors still turn into a problem eventually.

Can I Change Where My Cabinets Are?

Refacing works with your boxes staying exactly where they sit right now, so any major layout changes mean replacement instead. We can add new cabinets next to refaced ones if you need more storage, and we can upgrade the insides with pull-out shelves or soft-close slides. But moving boxes to different walls, reconfiguring an island, or changing the basic footprint of your kitchen falls outside what refacing can do.

The Right Answer Depends on Your Kitchen

Every kitchen shows up with different conditions, and the smart choice between refacing and replacement depends on your cabinet quality, whether you like your current layout, and what fits your budget. Call Cabinet Zone at (239) 771-3351 to schedule a look at your cabinets and get an honest read on which direction makes sense for your situation.
